How do I know if he fancies me?
I work with a guy I really like, he is not my direct superior but he is a number of pay grades above me. We talk often, when work allows, and he always smiles when he sees me coming. I make him laugh a lot and we have a series of private jokes that pass between us. I have caught him watching me from time to time, but keeping an eye on the staff is part of his job discription. There is also a bit of an age gap, I'm 20 almost 21 and he is somewhere between 28 and 32. A completely young soul though, sporty adventurous and a complete gentleman. I think he likes me but feels it is inapporate to make an advance. I love my job, which is only part-time, and the people I work with, but I would happily and easily transfer to another branch if I was sure the relationship was going somewhere, but I don't even no how to let him know I'm interested. I'm not looking to advance in the company its only part time to pay for college, the whole sleeping with the boss to advance my career argument doesn't really apply. I really feel that we could be good together, despite our obivious differences we are at a similar place in life, both single, living away from home, focused on career goals, (mine to become a teacher and his to reach upper management) and generally just out have fun. I'm a realist I know that nothing in life is guaranteed, but it seems a shame to not give something that has potential a shot! Which leads me back to my original question does it in fact have potential? Any advise greatly apprecated.

Is there potential for two twenty-somethings to end up dating after they meet at work? Of course. Happens all the time. There's also a potential one of you will get fired. You should never date a supervisor. And there's a huge chance you will find out that "young soul" is a fancy way of saying "immature".

I'd date outside of work, someone closer to your age, who perhaps strikes you as more mature than their age, not less. Somehow it seems the immature ones tend to stay that way no matter their age!

I'm just wondering - because you don't know how old he is - how do you know if he's single?
