The 19 yr. old is licensed and has his own insurance. He is at fault in the wreck. One of the passengers in the other vehicle conveniently discovers neck pain when the police arrive. How much liability will the parents insurance company have toward vehicle repair and who is responsible for the personal injury liability in a case like this?

When you borrow a car (with permission) then the car owner's insurance policy covers you. So in this example the parents' insurance covers the 19 year old when he is driving their car, including collision and property damage and liability. This is why the rules in our house when our kids were teenagers was to never, ever let a friend of theirs borrow one of our cars. Unfortunately the parents are about to see their rates go way up.

The liability depends on what policy you have. It should say on the insurance card.

Not only is this an old thread, vandallen's response is not accurate. The insurance card you carry in the car does not show the insured's liability coverage limits, if that's what you mean. It IS on the policy documents however.
