My fridge stopped cooling and I noticed that the compressor keeps going on and off and it is very hot

Usually it's just dirty back there and not enough airflow for the fan to blow out hot air. Clean out dust and dirt. Make sure compressor cooling fan is operational. Sometimes fan motor goes out.
