    Stepparent Adoption
I wanted to know what will need to be done in proceeding with a stepparent adoption, when the consent of an absent biological father cannot be obtained. The biological father has been missing for almost a year now, and I don't know of his whereabouts. I know that a consent form must be signed in order for my husband to be "allowed" to adopt my daughters, but since I don't know where the biological father is, how do I go about obtaining the required signature for the consent form?

First, this is a legal issue so has been moved from the Adoption forum. Any question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. You need to show a good faith effort to try and contact the father. What constitutes a good faith effort varies.

You really should retain an attorney too prepare the paperwork. Your attorney can then make sure you dot all the Is and cross all the Ts.
