Water Backup in Bathtub with Smell
When using the washing machine in my kitchen, when it drains water backs up in bathtub and leaves a black gritty and smells also suds come up in toilet and it gurgles? Had this problem about two months ago. Notice it usually happens after having rain.

City sewer or septic? Iam guessing both the washer and the tub are on the same floor, right? A slow drain, partially clogged will back up and find the lowest place to escape which would be your tub drain or shower. You need to rod down stream from the tub. If you have a clean close by use that or remove the over flow plate on the tub and rod down from there

Typo, sorry. Clean out, its an access cap that unscrews to allow rodding.

Are you on septic. If it occurs after rain, it sounds like your drain field is saturated. It may be coincidental. You could also have a blockage in the main line. Have a plumber snake it out anf then see what happens. If on septic, I would also have someone look at the system.

    Hey Linedancer,
Sounds like you have a clog downstream from the bathtub that must be snaked and cleared.
You can do this in one of several ways.
    1) You can remove the tub waste and overflow and snake from there, (see image)
    2) You can pull the toilet and snake from there. **OR**
    3) you can snake from the lavatory roof vent, Put out enough snake to reach the base and 18 feet more. Good luck, Tom
