    Lovebirds breeding.
I have lovebirds that have laid their eggs on the floor! The first time this happened she didn't incubate and they went bad and eventually broke! Then I place a nest (sieve) in the cage. They loved sitting in it but still laid their eggs on the floor. I moved the first 3 up into the nest but they ignored them. I then moved them back down after a 4th was laid on the floor and slid a piece of cardboard with two small sides under the eggs. She is now incubating them beautifully but I really need to clean the cage. I was thinking of lifting the piece of cardboard and sliding out the tray to clean?? Any advise here would be appreciated. I had not intended to become a bird breeder!!

Hi dfurber, I moved your post to it's own thread. It's not a good idea to piggyback on someone else's thread, you'll get more answers if you start your own.

Is there any way for you to clean around the eggs? It's best not to touch them unless you know what you're doing.

What kind of nest did you buy for the lovebirds? Where did you place it in the cage?

Every bird is different. Some like to have their nests high (finches need the nests to be at the highest point in the cage) and others like to have their nests low.

I don't know a lot about love birds, I've only dealt with finches, budgies and cockatiels.

Let me do some research, call a friend that breeds love birds, and I'll get back to you. :)

Thank you. I placed the sieve at the top of the cage for them to nest in. I will have to buy a bigger cage if I am going to buy a nesting box. The eggs are on top of a piece of cardboard. If I lift them all up undisturbed do you think I can clean?
