I was thinking about installing a wall mounted pot filler in our kitchen. What type of fitting and mounting does this require. I am using ½” copper to a thread male. I will secure the pipe to the stud. Is this correct. How far out does the thread need to stick out of the wall.

I would place backing between the studs and install a drop eared ell,(see image). I would then take a brass nipple and extend the threads just beyond the finished wall. A 1/2" chrome escutcheon plate over the nipple will give your job a professional look. You may now attach the pot filler. Good luck on your project. Tom

I would suggest using 2X4 backing and terminate the water line with a shower 90. A shower 90 is the fitting that a shower arm/head is screwed into. It is made of brass and has 1/2 female threads. Go to any plumbing supply and ask for a "shower 90".

Another, more common name for that fitting would be a 1/2" copper x 1/2" female drop ear elbow... see image.
