How do I set up a linksys router BEFSR41 to use 2 pc's on 1 DSL connection?
Have been trying to connect two pc's using a Linksys BEFSR41 wired router. No success... when I connect the router to the PC, I lose my internet connection. Can't get into the setup page to configure without the internet connection, & vise-versa. Also just found out my DSL modem has a router in it -- but there is nowhere to plug in the 2nd PC. (ActionTec Model#GT701 DSL modem) I was told the modem and router have the same IP Address, and are therefore not playing nice. (Not sure exactly what that means). Please; need some assistance with this issue, ASAP. Thank you, Nise5280

The modem gets plugged in the WAN port of the router and the PCs in the 2 of the 4 LAN ports.

The modem does have routing capabilities and you can connect two computers to it, one via USB and the other via Ethernet. You can find the manual for the mode here:

So I would not bother using the Linksys. You CAN use it just as a switch by disabling the DHCP server, but you will need to get into the router configuration for that. To do so, you can go to 192.168.1.1, just enter Admin as the password with no user name. You may need to reset the Linksys first by leaving it unpowered for a bit.
