Can motion sensor lights be overridden as needed to be turned on and off and then back to motion within a switch?

Some can go into manual override, just by switching the switch back and forth within a second or something depending on manufacturer.
Before those came out, I used to use a 3 way switch, one position was motion, other position was ON, you could even get the switch with center off, so you could have Motion Activated, OFF and ON.
