    Moving p-trap in a slab
I have a question on moving a p-trap and plumbing for a tub on a slab. I am going from a drop in tub to a free standing tub and so I need to dig up the slab, replumb the p-trap to the proper location - ~2ft over and then refill the slab. I noticed that there was a hole just off center under my bathtub and existing drain that was obviously filled in after the fact with cement. It wasn't done so that it is level with the slab. I was told that this usually isn't even filled in but may have been for some other reason. If I trench out a 2'ft long, 6" wide portion of my slab, what is the best option for refilling it? Should I just get some nylon based cement patch? Regular cement? Since I am going to have a free standing tub, I also need to level out any anomiles such as the hole off to the side. It is about 18" in diameter and probably is about 1-1/2" depressed from the other part of the slab.

    Thanks

You're going to hafta have a tub dap-out to connect the new tub unless this tub's different from the others. The tub waste connects to the trap raiser under the floor line. You going to need a 12 X12" square cut out of the cement to hook it up. As for the other, after you get the trap and raiser configured and the tub dap-out built then you can fill the old hloe with dirt up to 2 inches of the floor line and float a cement patch over the trench.

    good luck, Tom

Thanks. Question - what is the reason for leaving the dap-out open? We have had a history of termites and carpenter ants and it appears this is one area they came in at.

"We have had a history of termites and carpenter ants and it appears this is one area they came in at." You have just described the Tampa Bay Area. So the builders in my area pour hot tar, if a cast iron trap, or roof cement, if PVC, on the floor of the dap-out to keep the critters out. Regards, Tom
