There are a lot of people who make their living singing and travelling, but they are not popstars. They do things like sing in competitive choirs, back for country singers, work in opera companies.

The main thing you need to do to be a singer, pop or any other sort, is to become the best possible singer you can be. Practice, practice, practice, and learn as much as possible. Do different kinds of singing. Enter competitions, join bands, join choirs.
