If a company writes a check is it a debit or credit to the cash account?

Debit column.

If the company writes a check it will be a Credit to Cash because you are paying cash for something like an expense or are purchasing an asset.

If you write a cheque it will credit the BANK COLUMN of the three column cash book or will credit the BANK A/C as the balance in the bank is reduced.
