Adult children's right to receive child support money
I am paying child support in the state of Texas. For approximately 8 years I have been paying child support for back child support owed. My sons are now 28, 26 & 25. Are they not entitled to receive this money as it is for them. My ex-wife lives on welfare and food stamps and has for the past 23 years. Initially in these 8 years the state was getting all the money, for the past years my ex-wife is now getting that money.

Child support is paid to the custodial parent for the costs of caring for the children. If you are paying arrears then you are reimbursing the custodial parent for what she had to pay while you didn't provide support for your children. So no the children are not entitled to this support.

But this is to pay HER back for the money she paid and used to raise the kids, NO it is not the kids money, it is the parents or guardians money for raising the children.

And if she was on welfare before, why did you not pay it back then to help the children when they really needed it

Here is where I start splitting hairs. This statement isn't the exact truth. In Texas as in many states that seek to punish the paying father by keeping them in debt far longer and allow the mother to collect far more then they paid out. They charge interest on the child support. SO if a person losses a job and then later gets employed there is almost no way to catch up. And because of it missing 6 months of chils support with interest early on can lead to 10 years of child support later. Its not a fair system for the child nor the NCP in any way.
