I recently moved into a house that has a fiberglass shower base. One day after showering we noticed the ceiling below had wet spots.

I've read this forum and just tested out some of the tricks to find the root cause... I've put a wet towel in the drain itself and filled the pan up with water to a level that I marked. So far no water has escaped. I've also been able to peel back a vent and can take pictures of the return pipe. So far no leaking.

If it does turn out to be plumbing I'm assuming I'd have to cut a hole in the ceiling below to work on. If it starts to leak, can I use the Wing Tite to replace the drain?

When it does leak, I hope to get a picture and see where exactly it is leaking...

When you had the drain stiopped off did you step in the shower to see if putting weight around the drain made it leak? If the shower base flexes when you step in it the chances are that the seal under the lip of the drain has been ruptured. Regards, tom

Not a drip. I'm 300 pounds too and nothing. I stood in there for 5 minutes and moved around. I am going to unplug the drain and see if I can snap a picture of the leak...

Speedbal,

I had the base filled for about 3 hours with drain clogged. No leak. I got in the base, walked around for 5 minutes. No Leak.

I ran the shower with the drain unclogged at a very water fall pace directly on the drain. No leak. I decided to move the shower head up as high as it goes so it hits the glass and a half wall that is tiled. Bingo. It seemed like all of the sudden a gush of water after a few minutes in that position. Below is a link to the picture. Now close examination to me doesn't look like it's the drain at all... but maybe just falling out of the crack? Doesn't look like the drain or pipe is wet at all.

What do you think? Should I re-caulk the shower?

It sounds like you've located the source of your leak. Regrout the tiles and I think the problem will disappear. Good piece of analyzing your problem. Regards, Tom
