I have a 16 year old cousin who is 5 months pregnant and is at no means ready to be a fit mother as well as the father, I want to know what are my chances in obtaining custody on the baby once he is born? The maternal grandmother is disabled and would be able to care for the baby. The 16 year old does not work and chooses when she wants to go to school, father is also unemployed. Both of them to this point have proven that they would be VERY unfit parents to this poor child.

You have NO chance of getting custody of an unborn child. Whether you can be given responsibility for the child after its born depends on a lot of factors.

If the mother and father do not consent it becomes much harder. If the mother and father want to try and raise it, courts will be reluctant to take the child away until they can be proven unfit. And it would have to be the local children's services agency that determines that.

If the bio parents are willing to allow you to adopt or even willing to give you guardianship, this becomes much easier. If not, your best bet is to contact children's services and report the situation letting them know you are willing to foster the child.
