    Nope. The 'check engine light' is motivated by emissions.
    If the shorted wiring caused further damage to the electrical system, there would be additional drivability symptoms. For example, if the short caused multiple fuses to open, the chances are that you would get NO lights at all rather than lighting the 'check engine light.'
