I have a 97 Honda civic ox with only 31000 original miles the car is in great condition. I don't think the timing belt needs to be replaced until 105000 miles but I know sometimes it also has to do with the year of the car. I don't have the money to have it replaced at this time. Can someone with experience or knowledge let me know what they think. AL

Every 90,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. Honda rates their new timing belts to 105,000 miles, not the one on your Civic. Yes, you are clearly rolling the dice. If it snaps, your engine's pistons and valves will have an astroidic collision, the light from which will be seen for millions of years.

    Honda civic timing belt
I have 97 civic 30000 miles I'm not sure if timing belt was ever changed.looking at the motor mount screws close to timing belt looks like they where removed even the screw holding the cover might have been touched. Could it mean that it was replaced?

If you don't know WHEN it was replaced... get it done... and write it down and put it in the glovebox.

If it snaps you WILL at a minimum bend valves.

    Consider it money well spent.
