We have now seen 3 timer motors work, then stop in a couple of days, after hooking them up to our pool pump. When we replaced the lst timer, instead of hooking up the timer motor leads to their own circuit, the repairperson hooked them up at the same terminals as the leads from the pump. Is this the reason the timer motor(s) is(are) burning out?

I have had better luck with plug-in timers but they must be rated to carry the apmerage of your pump. What is your pump rated at, how many amps does it draw and are you using a timer rated higher than that?

Note that timer motor is 220 v, pool pump is 110v.

The timer motor is rated 220v, the pool pump110v : pool is pulling this amperage. Instematic is telling me the 220v timer motor must have been originally connected to 220v of power. Somehow, I must figure out how the original timer was wired. Repairperson has removed a number of wires, so not obvious how to connect the 220v timer motor properly.

I would like to help you but need a little more information. What kind of timer are you trying to use, and are you feeding the timer with 110v or 220v from the breaker panel? Do you have a neutral wire coming from the breaker panel to allow you to wire a 110v motor properly? Most modern motors can be wired to run on 110v or 220v by either changing a couple jumpers or turning a selector switch in the rear of the motor. If you are feeding the time clock with 220v, you would be better off running the motor on 220v if possible. The timer clock motor only runs the clock mechanism itself to maintain the proper time of day. The clock motors are available in 110v or 220v models, but you must use the correct one for your input voltage into the timer.
