Okay so I did something pretty stupid. I let the father of my 7 months old son sign the birth certificate when he was born. 2 weeks after my son was born my ex-boyfriend disappeared. I haven't heard or seen from him in 6 1/2 months. I am trying to amend my son's birth certificate to say my last name, but the paperwork states that both parents must be present before a notary. I can't even find him, how can I amend his birth certificate without getting the father involved?

No way. Sorry!

I would suggest taking other steps, like suing for child support, so that if he ever wants parental rights you have something to fall back on.
