I was on a j 1 visa. Expired and now I sit in a bit of a catch!! Don't want to leave but what can I do? can I stay in the states? How long and can I apply for a new visa?

If you are a J-1 overstay, you cannot file for any other nonimmigrant visa classification here in the US. Are you subject to the 2-year home residency requirement? It will be noted on your visa and the DS-2019.

    Please clarify your marital status.
