I don't know if that expression is recognised in the US but apparently the principle certainly is. In the absence of anyoneelse coming forward BO has decided that he is doing well
Obama says he's a 'pretty good president'

Now I know we are all used to politicians declaring how good they are, but really, it is polite to wait and accept the judgement of others in this matter

But as the Nobel Committee demonstrated ,it is the expectations ,not the results that make the man.

Paraclete, I guess I live in a bubble because I have never heard the term figjam before you posted it. Looked it up. I like it! That being said, I think the headline is misleading. After reading the article, it is obvious it was an off the cuff quip/joke as a response to what someone yelled out in the crowd.

"For all the problems we're going through right now, we still have the best workers on earth, the finest universities on earth, we've got the best entrepreneurs on earth, we've got the freest, most vibrant economy on earth," he said.

One female supporter then yelled out "the best president on earth" and Obama replied, "Well, I won't say that, but we got a pretty good president".

Whether you like his sense of humor or not is another matter entirely. LOL!

What can you expect from a guy who began his presidential career claiming, "this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal."

Unfortunately for him, he has to share the credit for saving the world with Harry Reid who just claimed, "but for me, we'd be in a world-wide depression."

    Hello clete:

Yeah... When Bush was asked what mistakes he'd made, he was stumped. ALL politicians are egomaniacs.

Politicians don't make mistakes ex they suffer reversals, Bush declared victory in a war that went on for years, Obama sent the troops in Iraq into barracks and declared the war over, now if Bush had just thought of that tactic
