How do I fix girdling roots on a sunset maple
My sunset maple is unhealthy. I'm thinking I need to do something with the roots or maybe feed it more. The leaves turn brown and wither as soon as they bloom. What's wrong with it?

How large and old is it? If newly planted and not yet established it could be from the heat this past summer, hottest on record! You need to water during long spells of high heat. And if it's planted in direct sun this will burn the leave as they emerge in spring.

Also, DO NOT feed at all for the first year of planting a new maple. Feed only after the first year, and only once, in the spring or fall. Once it is established you do not need to feed it at all. P.S. Top dress with mulch around the base and away from the trunk to keep roots moist.
