I have a friend coming to visit me he asked me to stay with him at the hotel for 2 nights in the county my probation is in. Do I need to ask for permission since I'm not leaving the county?

When you were sentenced, or when you visited the probation office, you were given some conditions of your probation.. I don't know what they are. Frankly, I've NEVER heard of any that prevented a probationer from staying at a hotel, but that's not to say that you don't have that condition.

In terms of movement, the ONLY terms I've ever had was about leaving the state.

Are you on house arrest, and are the restrictions of your probation are to remain home at all times? If so then I would stay home and play it safe. Probation ain't forever, but mess it up and you'll be paying forever. Now worth the 2 days of fun...
