    Married Recently Deduction Question
I just got married and was wondering can I claim my wife as a dependent.. and myself? In actuallity , can I claim 2 dependents (myself and my wife?) I will be doing my taxes with an Online ( well-known company) we do not own anything and have very very few deductions.

If you were legally married by 11:59 P.M. on 31 Dec 06, the IRS considers you married for the entire year of 2006.

You CANNOT claim your wife as a dependent. However, you CAN file jointly, which is much better as it doubles your Standard Deduction to $10,300 and you still get her personal exemption of $3,300.

So your combined personal exemptions will be $6,600 and your combined Standard Deduction will be $10,300.
