When I switch the washing machine on, it starts to work normally but the drum will not turn yet you can hear the turning and the spinning sounds. I check to clean the drainer and all other links to the drainer and the drum will not spin.

This suggest to me that a drive belt has either slipped off or broken. If you can easily take the back off the washer you may see that hti is (or is not) the problem. If it has just slipped off it may be easy to fix or may be a symptom of a more complicated problem. Good luck.
