Stray kitty who has recently had kittens won't go to them
Last night when my boyfriend got home a tiny little cat jumped up into his truck through the open window. He came in a told me he had just found a cat that looked like she had just had babies. I went to check and there she was sitting on our doorstep. I went out and I was surprised at how friendly she was, and brave. We have three large dogs who were checking her out through the screen and she still decided to walk inside. We gave her some cat food and water and she ate a ton. She is very skinny and her nipples are swollen and there is no fur around them. Her skin is also saggy on her stomach. I tried to let her back out last night in case she needed to find her babies but she didn't go anywhere. I have tried again several times today and she seems content to just stay here and sleep. If she has kittens would she want to go find them or do some cats not want to care for their kittens? I live out in the country so there are all sorts predators around here. If she has kittens I would like to find them so they can have a chance at being loved. Let me know if I am being hasty and if she eventually will go to them. It is just getting very cold here and there are a lot of wild dogs. Also, is there anywhere specific or some types of areas she would be more likely to hide them. We are surrounded by farmland so the odds of finding them are not looking very good.

She may have weaned them already, that is why she left. Your guess is as good as mine as to where they could be. Usually its an old shed or a barn. Needles in a haystack my dear. I hate to say forget them and look after her, I know that sounds callous but what else can you do. It wouldn't be an easy task and would take several people looking for hours.
