    Changing washer to portable one
We want to move our washer from basement to apt. Have no washer drain. Was told we could attach longer hoses on the back and drain it into kitchen sink drain. The drain works great and could handle the drainage. We want to extend the hose cross the counter top about 6 feet so as not to have to continually move the washer. Please say it is possible to do this! Too old to keep going up and down the stairs.

I believe the UPC requires a 2" drain and most sinks are 1 1/4 or 1/1/2. Where are you going to get the water supply from? In an apartment, your lease probably doesn't allow you to replumb without approval. You could be liable for damage to other units if the plumbing fails and damages other tenants property. That said do people use portable washing machines that dump into a sink? Yes.

The washer will be hooked up to the sink just as a portable is. Faucet will be turned on to fill the washer through a hose. The washer will drain into the sink through another hose. The temp of the water will be controlled by the faucet. There will not be any additional plumbing done. The hose will be attached to the faucet with an adapter, the same as a portable is. The same hookup as a portable, only the hookup will be a regular washing machine. I ghad a fauily large portable that drained into the kitchen sink and had no problems. What is a UPC?

UPC is the plumbing code used in most locations. If you have done this before, go ahead. Make sure the sink has the capacity for the amount of water . Portable units are much smaller so you may have to keep a close watch on the level. Good Luck!
