Hello.

We had a homerun installed when our home was built. Basically we have our TV in the space above our fireplace and our TV cable is run into an outlet on the wall on the other side of the room. The satellite and audio receiver is connected using this homerun. We are trying to run the DVD player by using the video/audio cables in this order: DVD > audio receiever > Dish Network Receiver with the cable from the homerun. The cable works fine with satellite and audio. BUt I have no picture or audio with the DVD player. Is running the DVD through the satellite and not directly to the TV possible with the correct wire and connections?

Hello,

Although the reason you are getting no video/sound may be because it is hooked up incorrectly, I will tell you this:

Nearly all DVD players must be connected directly to the television's video inputs. The reason for this is to protect DVDs from copy infringement. When hooked up indirectly (like through a VCR, etc.) it is very common for the picture to fade in and out and possibly cause some distortion in the audio.

Although even with your explanation, I'm not sure that I completely understand your setup, here's what you can do:

Run a separate A/V cable to your TV (which would be challenging from what I understand) or use an RF modulator.

The RF modulator would be used to temporarily interrupt your cable running to the television and modulate your DVD player on channel 3 or 4 (usually). Although you will not get 100% perfect picture quality with this, it is probably your best solution.
