But then again I am gaining a few 100 grams and I guess that could be muscle but I don't know. Please help.
You need to wait till your hormones kick in which will come w/ age... nothing wrong of staying active in the mean time as long as you focus on learning proper form and technique vs. trying to lift heavy weights... this is a lifestyle (if you want long term result) and this lifestyle requires intelligent planning/ prep, dedication and diet and most of all patience!
Look I'm 13 n I've got abs like rocks and they only took me 1 year to get so don't bother at your age just stay fit and lay soprt until your time comes:)
