Landlord won't allow me to paint
I am looking at a small house. The rent is very reasonable. But I have some concerns. The landlord claims that she just painted the house, but I looked at it and there are scuff marks all over the walls, and even places where it was patch up without being repainted. When I asked if I could paint it, she said no. I said the peach walls and yellow walls will not match my furniture. She said, well tell your friends that your landlord won't let you paint. Do I have the right to paint anyway? She also wants to store all her stuff in the tiny one car garage that I was counting on storing my stuff in. It will take up the whole garage. Does she have a right to do that?

No. You don't have any right at all that she doesn't rent to you, and she isn't renting with a right to repaint.

Yes. Again, your "rights" are defined by the terms of the lease.

Why did you attach a question to an old thread? Weren't there any new ones left?

First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can lead to confusion. You should start a new thread. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

As AK aaid, she owns the property. You cannot use that property in any way that she does not give you permission to. If these items are a deal breaker then go elsewhere. Or negotiate lease provisions that allow you to do these things. Maybe a higher rental will change her mind.

But frankly, I would pass. The landlord using the garage is a fairly common normal thing. But the painting thing is kind of strange. I don't see why a landlord would not let you paint at your expense. So, this portends a rocky landlord/tenant relationship.

You have no right to paint, you can tell her that you will not rent unless she repaints it, or allows you to paint. She can decide what color to pain ( you have no real right unles she allows it)

You have no right to use the storage unless she lets you. I have had sheds on rental property where I do not let the tenant even use it at all. I store my items there.

So it is obious she does not want to keep it up, and does not want to do things to home, so do you want to rent from such a person.
