Can I send cigarettes from Europe to the U.S?
    Hello,
I'm making a package for my friend and I put my letter in the package along with 1 bag of her favorite tea and 1 cigarette (not a pack, just one) so she can drink tea and smoke a cigarette while reading it, just as a special thought. Before I seal it I realized it might not be legal to send a cigarette to someone through mail and I'd rather not send it if everything in the package can be returned to me.
Has anyone done that before? Is it legal? Do I have to pay taxes or do they? (I don't want her to pay to get the package) Thank you for your answers.

My friend used to have his cousin send boxes and boxes of cigarettes from India to the US because they are so much cheaper (barely taxed) there. Granted, they were sealed in boxes. You could probably get away with sending a lone cigarette in a padded envelope, but I'm sure you'd be fine if you sent her a pack.

You MAY want to send an email to the U.S. Postal Service and ask THEM if sending a cigarette is legal. The link to their mwebsite is below:
