We changed my spark plugs yesterday and in the 2nd hole, there was oil... it wasn't on the bottom of the plug but more on the top of the plug. The oil was only in the 2nd hole. Anybody know what that means? How did it get there? And approx how much $$ and hassle to fix? Thanks in advance. I love my 94 Honda, it has 145,000 miles on it.

Remove the cylinder head (valve) cover and replace the four spark plug seals ($6), which are located on the underside of the cover. Coat the tapered portion of the seal with clean engine oil. This is an easy 10 minute job. Normally, this solves most leaking problems.

If the problem persists, the valve cover and cam cage (rocker arm assembly) will need to be removed to replace the four O-rings on the bottom. Remove the outside 6 mm bolts first. Then, remove the outside 8 mm bolts to the rocker arm assembly first, working your way to the middle. Once all bolts are free, gently pry up on and remove the assembly. Turn the rocker arm assembly on its side and replace the four O-rings--do not use any sealant. Replace the rocker arm assembly on the engine. Loosely tighten all the bolts finger tight. Ensure the rocker arms are properly positioned on the cam lobes. Start gently tightening the bolts with a ratchet, working from inside outwards. On a Civic D15B7 engine, the 8 mm bolts are torqued 16 lb.-ft. while the 6 mm bolts are torqued 9 lb.-ft. It's imperative to get the proper torque specifications for your engine--they really do vary. Rotate the engine counterclockwise by hand, to ensure everything was done right. Afterwards, button everything up. Obviously, this is a much more expensive job.
