Chase and many others offer free banking. Some plans require the minimun balance like Judy mentions while others requuire you to use your debit card a certain number of times per month , no minimum

Assuming or a wild guess for checking, it is a bank to bank issue, today there is less free checking than there was a couple of years ago due to changes in bank charges allowed.

I have free checking at my bank because I am over 55 ( they have a discount for seniors) Also there are free accounts if you keep a 1000 dollar balance.

Savings are normally free if you don't make many withdraws a month but that varies greatly.

Also your credit history, your past banking history will all effect even if you can get a bank account
