    Parvo question
5 days ago (sat) my family purchased a 15 week old puppy (pitt mix.. Daisy) from a careless owner. She had not received any shots or vet care. By Monday she became very sick with parvo. We have been treating her under a vets care for this and she is doing better, but I am worried about my other dog (Pepper) contracting it. He is almost four years old and has had all appropriate vacc's since he was a puppy minus one recent booster. I have read everything under the sun about parvo and I have been cleaning everything she has/had come in contact with bleach solution. She has been using the bathroom out back and so my dog has only been allowed out front. I am doing the best that I can now to do what I can, but I know that my dog has already been exposed. Besides what I am doing now is there any other precautionary things ( such as meds, vits) that I can do to help prevent him from getting sick with it?

Parvo is like the flu virus, it's constantly changing, so while there is a slim possibility that your current dog could become ill with Parvo, the chance is very, very slim. As long as you are taking every precaution, by washing all bedding, discarding all chew toys, bones, it would be best to even replace water and food dishes, then Pepper should be fine.

Parvo can live in soil for up to five years in some instances, so when you remove feces it wouldn't hurt to pour a little bleach over the area, same with any are the dogs have urinated.

Good luck, and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for Miss Daisey.
