Had an ultrasound on Friday. The results are that my ovaries are polycystic--which I already knew--and that I have a rather large cyst on my right ovary.

I had surgery last year to remove cysts from both ovaries.

Since this is the second time I've had large cysts, is it likely they are going to suggest removing the ovary? I still want kids, and I'm freaking out that this cyst may mean that I won't be able to have them.

It's not likely that they would need to remove the ovary. That doesn't happen very often at all.

Do you know how long the cyst may have been there? Have you been hurting?

In most cases they will either keep an eye on it, or depending on the size and if you are in pain, they'll remove it. Unless it has caused damage the ovary will remain.

Some women are just naturally more prone to developing cysts and PCOS is obviously one main reason for it.

I also want to tell you that I have a friend that has PCOD, one ovary. The doctors told her she'd never conceive. She now has 3 kids, the last conceived while she was on the pill.

In other words, don't give up hope, okay?

It's apparently fairly large, and I've been in a lot of pain for the last several months.

It's oh-so-much-fun when your doctor is gone on medical leave, and no one knows who you should see or what you should do, in the middle of all your treatments.

Sex hurts sometimes, my periods are agony--it takes 2-3 750mg vicodin to get through the first day of my period. No pain otherwise, but I'm tired all the time. I have a feeling that the tired is probably more a depression thing than anythign else, though.

Using my vacation for surgery LAST year sucked---I don't want to do it again this year too :(

Hopefully they will contact you if there are any cancellations, but you may want to frequently check yourself.

Is your stomach tender to the touch at all? Certainly if you start to run a fever or experience more pain, head to the ER.

Nope--no fever and no pain outside of moving wrong during sex or during my period.

I'm seriously thinking of switching doctors and clinics, because this has just been too frustrating.

I don't know too much about cysts, but I do know this much: according to my mom's doctor my brother and I wouldn't be born. She had cysts on her ovaries too. Fortunately, she proved that doctor wrong. She's conceived 4 times, once before me and twice after me. Only me and my brother (the fourth) made it.
What I'm trying to say is that you still have a chance.
My mom had a histerectomy when I was about 14, hopefully you don't have to deal with that in the future, but if you do I hope it's after the babies come. :)

Thought I should do a quick update. They're doing a hysterosalpingogram (that word seriously makes me giggle) next month. The doc is concerned that the endometriosis may have spread to my fallopian tubes, so we're checking that out next.

Either way, it seems that my next stop after that is to a fertility specialist.

But no surgery at this point in time!
