Hello, I live in Toronto, Canada and I am a dual citizen with USA passport and Canadian passport. I haven't been to the USA for many years. Q?- Is it smarter to enter the USA showing USA passport, then coming back to Canada to show Canadian passport? Will this confuse the border people? Don't want to confuse them, want things to go smoothly. Thanks,

My son is a dual citizen. He has one passport and travels between USA and Canada regularly. He only has one passport declaring him as being born in the USA of Canadian parents. How is it you have two passports ? Where were you born, USA or Canada ? You should have only one passport.

Hi Tick. I have 2 passports because I did not want to renounce either citizenship. Both govts. Allow this I was born in Baltimore. Your opinion on my question is still valid... please , how do you feel about it. Thanks, Aquareii

Well, I have to recind my comments from way before because my son has now found out it will be easier to travel with both Canada and US passports. So is just now applying for US passport because he will be in Nashville working for another 3 weeks. He was born in Flint MI. He will now have to show both when he next goes over to work.

So, to comment on your question; I would carry both just in case you have to prove you were born in the US, as happened to my son just not too long ago.

Being a USC, there is no restriction on how long you can live outside US.

Use the correct passport to enter each country. If you show a Canadian passport on entry to the US, you will be allowed in as a nonimmigrant visitor. There is no annotation allowed for your Canadian passport to show you are a USC. The only evidence of US citizenship is a US passport, birth certificate or naturalization certificate.
