Tom: I can't tell if I already sent this question on this site (If I did, I probably need to get help with technology too)
Anyway, I'm following up on why I don't just leave the flange on the bathroom flor as you suggested. It is in good shape and that's why I wanted to leave it and install new floor under/around it originally. But, the toilet is tucked in a corner next to the tub and I can't get the second layer of flooring on an angle to slide it under the flange. (The first layer of subflooring was tight but it fit. Now, with that layer in and working around the bottom of the flange, there isn't a way to angle the flooring)
So, I need to remove the cast iron (or brass) flange if I can tell what it is and how to do it, then the floor with a hole cut for the pipe, then a new flange fastened to the flooring, and replace the toilet.
Thanks
