I live in an old apartment building with squeaky wooden floors. The neighbors hear each other walking or using bathroom, but no one has complained up until this new lady has moved in the apartment below mine. She started showing up at my door complaining that I am wearing high hills (which I don't). She then went to the landlord and told him that she had tried to resolve the issue with me but that I refused to cooperate. Her complains were not valid! I don't make loud or disruptive noise, and I wear fur slippers. The landlord went to check my floor and told her that it was properly covered. However, she kept on harassing me. On my daughter's wedding day she came and yelled that we were making too much noise at 11 AM (there was no music, we just had a lot of people in the apartment on the wedding morning). She threatened to call up the police. I wished she did! She apparently is a mental case, however, I feel that I am a victim. I am afraid to invite guests, because she will embarrass me in front of them. What should I do?

You need to have a meeting with management about her. Do it in a nice friendly way and just tell them that you are having a little problem with the person downstairs over noise. Tell them that you are a very quiet person. Mention the situation just as you have here and how exasperated you are that you can't even walk without her getting upset. By talking to him on your terms, not when you're ambushed by a complaint, you're in a much better situation.

Her behavior seems (based on what you've written here) to have escalated to the point of harassment. After you contact the landlord, I'd tell her that all future complaints should be directed to management and then I'd no longer answer the doorbell when she comes to air her grievances.

I would talk to your apartmet manager. Ask them how to handle this situation. If you can't get it resolved, I would ask apartment manager if you could move to another apartment .

You can not stop from living because of an idiot neighbor downstairs.

Continue inviting your friends and family and live your daily life.

Also make sure that your landlord or manager knows the issues.

How long have you lived there and you have a good relationship with the owners/landlords. Do not worry about that.

Also maybe next time, just kidding by the way. Why not ask her if she thinks things are so bad then why not put some ear plugs in or give her something to really complain about and start banging the hell out of the floor.

It can be frustrating. Sorry your dealing with this crap, especially on a special day like a wedding or any day for that matter.

She can, does, and will escalate problems for you.

You are right in that her complaints are unjustified, and I suspect that you are even more cautious and careful about the tiniest little noise you make, but a person like her, in my opinion, has no stops.

She will not be satisfied with you, or anyone else living above her, nor will she compromise, because her stance is non-negotiable, nor will she likely move.

More likely she will harrass the landlord, and you, with a bombardment of complaints, call the city, find code violations, take you to small claims court and sue you for making so much noise she lost time off work, pin nasty letters to your door, and otherwise bother the hell out of everyone, until she gets her way.

These types of people will not leave. The world revolves around them, and they have no consideration for anybody else.

She is 'entitled', and as such, will demand she get her way, and will blow up any little thing out of proportion, knowing that settling for a small compromise is worth the effort, because eventually it will just be too stressful to live there. And the small compromise might be for example, losing in court, but winning in that she showed you!

She won't back down, and will have a counter reaction, for every action (that is reasonable) by either you, or your landlord.

You can't win.
