    It's almost like there is a build up of gas... the furnace otherwise runs great

    Delayed ignition of the burners, Caused by dirty burners or faulty gas valve. This can be VERY dangerous so you may want to get a Pro to find out why it is happening. Can cause flame rollout and burnup the wires/start a fire and if not burning cleanly can produce CO Carbon monoxide and poison you.
