So my cousin bought a husky without realizing how much attention, exercise and food they need. He's had the pup for about 3 days and has already given up on it. He has asked me to take the dog since I am "best fit" to try and work with it, and since I've had big dogs... He chews (but what pup doesn't?) he goes to the washroom in the house(but again he's a pup) Should I incourage my cousin to keep the dog and help him work with it? Or should I take it? I've been wanting a dog for awhile but none came along that "felt right"... Also... I live in Manitoba Canada, and it should be able to spend most the time outside right? It won't be tied up and neglected and will get to come inside at times but he is only 9 weeks old and HUGE and I don't know how well having him inside a lot will go over with everyone else inside when he could outweigh everyone living here...

First, discourage your cousin from getting another puppy. It doesn't matter what breed they are nine week old puppies need a lot of care and work. Three days is nothing.

Second, how does it get along with your dog?

Third, there should be a 'family' meeting to decide if everyone in the family is up to the challenge of raising a puppy. Potty training and obedience especially. Does the family schedule allow time for people to take him out for potty breaks because he is too young to be left out on his own.

You can decide from there if this animal is a good fit in your home.

I've talked to my mom and she says that we can get another pup, and we do have time for it. My dog gets along great with most pups, but this one hasn't had his shots so I won't take my dog around it. Trust me, I never want him to own another dog, they got rid of there last one because he was to big, he was a white shepard...

I'm not one to leave a dog out side for extended periods, but seeing how cold the winters get there, in the winter it wouldn't be so bad, but the summers, the summers would no doubtingly kill him if he were left out side on his own for any extended period.

If you were to help your cousin, do you think that he would be a good pet owner? I don't think it's fair that you should have to babysit your cousin on his choices, so if you and your family all decide you would like to take this little guy on, I say go for it!

They are a tremendous amount of work, not only the socializing and training aspects of things, but also the grooming as well. If you aren't constantly on it, the fur takes over your house!

I know you are good with your pets, and you love your dogs, so I don't think that he would ever be neglected, but when huskies are left on their own with out much supervision they can become fairly destructive and the LOVE to run. My best friend lives in Shiloh, and they have a Husky who jumped their fence and they had to pick him up in Winnipeg!

Honestly... rehome.

Huskies are a lot of work. They are smart, need almost constant stimulation and are the world best escape artists.

Someone who can dedicate a lot of time to the pup might be best.

Wow, shilo to Winnipeg? That's a two hour drive! It's staying at his girlfriends right now (which is not much different or better but... ) so I hbe a little bit of time to think about it..
