    Relinquishing parental rights in Missouri
My ex wants to relinquish his parental rights to our 14 month old son to avoid paying child support. He has not attempted to see him since he was four days old but we are currently going through the processes of a custody battle. My ex has two children and another on the way, all different mothers, and does not make very much money. We are having the child support hearing in a few weeks and he doesn't want to have to pay. I was wondering if, in the state of Missouri, it is possible? I was under the impression that the only way a parent could sign over their rights was to make way for adoption.

Takes more than that... it takes a Courts decision to do it. You can't simply get rid of a kid like an old car.

And I don't know of any court that will allow relinquishment to get out of child support---and that will look VERY bad for him in a custody/child support hearing.

Exactly... and without a court order its not happening at all.

He can not give up his rights, esp just to get out of paying support, There are a few other ways that a parent can lose ( have taken away) their rights but this is not it.

This is a normal method of a dead beat dad trying to talk you out of court
