I am 17 years old. I live with my grandparents as of right now. My Mom&step dad won't let them have guardianship over me. I would like to know if anyone has any idea what I should do? Emacipation? Or is there some way for me to let my grandparents have guardianship over me without my parents consent? My Mom lives in Wisconsin. And I live in Minnesota. I have been Metally abused for most of my life. I refuse to move back in with them because I don't want to be in that situation anymore. I can't get any medical help or anything because I'm in a totally different state. I need help.

When will you turn 18? Do your parents have medical insurance?

Your Grandparents would have to go to Court, PROVE you are an abused child, ask the Court for custody.

How have you been mentally abused? Parent/teen child disagreements are not unusual. What specifically happened concerning you.

Where is your father in this picture? If your mother has custody, he can petition that custody be given to him (with the same proof) much faster than your grandparents can get custody or guardianship.

Your grandparents need to consult with an Attorney in their area - if you are living with them without parental permissiion your parents can get an order and force you back to their house or into foster care.

You can be emancipated if you are employed, live on your own. I know you don't live alone so I'm not going into details.

How did you end up at your Grandparents' house?

My real dad hasn't been around since I was 4.
And no its none of that little stuff about curfew or whatever..
Its being called useless and stupid. Shouldn't have even been born. And so on..
My mom has some what given me permission but has not done anything for me like she should.
I ended up coming here because I got put into the miller dwan mental hospital.
It was in my best interest to come down here and live with my grandparents.

Then your grandparents should PROVE the abuse and move for guardianship - soon.

I don't understand why your parents would let you move in with your grandparents but not be willing to sign legal papers. Perhaps an Attorney can sort that out.
