Is it normal to take three years to determine who the heirs are?
How long does it usually take to determine who the heirs are? I presented my marriage license a couple of days after my husband passed. It still took three years to determine I was his wife. I just thought that was an extremely long time to determine I was in fact his wife. I think they had ulterior motives.

Who had ulterior motives ? His family ? I don't think a marriage license can be disputed. Were they contesting the will because you were named sole heir?
