Hey everyone,
I just started using a CPAP 2 days ago. My doctor had me to go to a sleep study a few weeks ago, and turns out I quit breathing 300+ times an HOUR. (yes, I asked the doctor twice and verified it was HOUR, not each night)
So he was concerned about the safety of going through my surgery (tonsilectomy, deviated septum correction)
So anyway, at the sleep study, the nurse rushed in at about 1am to put the machine on me after the computer told her what I was doing. After adjustments and such thruout the night, my best setting is set at 6, with a setting of 3 for humidity ( 3 out of 10 setting)
The problems I am having are:
I keep it on for about 4 hours (according to the machines records) but then aparently remove it in my sleep and set it aside--- Is this just because I am not used to it, or what could be happening here
I also have developed a HORRIBLE phlem cough in my throat. No nasal or sinus congestion, so its not nasal or sinus drip into my throat. Is this considered a normal part of adjusting to the machine, or is something not right in the settings? Too much humidity, not enough. I can't change the pressure setting, but I am allowed to change the humiditiy if that may help.
Thanks everyone. Other than that, even with me only keeping the machine on for 3-4 hours a night, I am waking up SO MUCH better. Aparently I have not had any REM sleep for YEARS. None at all. So I am REALLY enjoying even just the few hours of REM I am getting these last few days lol.
