Please don't post your email address - it's against AMHD rules.

This is a legal question, not a question about cars and trucks (that I can see).

Why didn't the Officers do their job? WERE the kids charged with a misdemeanor and you think it should be a felony? Where (that matters)?

The officers charged them with nothing not even a ticket. They admitted to doing it . It hit on the drivers side and shattered the windshield as the combined impact speed was above 70 mph. It is a norrow street with telephone poles trees and a deep canal. Beside the roadway. They had their scHool coach respond first and he talked with the officers first. Then the officers come and told me they were not going to do anything! Good old boy system at its best in Davie fla

I would go to the Police Officers' superior and if that didn't work, I'd go to the media.

    Who paid for the damage?

Criminal damage to property, and could be other crimes also.

You go to the police chief, than also the DA
In GA ( not up on FL) you can also go to court and file a charge yourself, they will be called in for a hearing.

Also you sue the kids and their parents for all damages

    Hello e:

I'd leave well enough alone... YOU could be charged with any number of FELONY'S for "trapping" kids.

You're an idiot. If you don't know what your talking about don't reply.

Getting angry with the people who know what they're talking about isn't going to help you at all - and Excon is right. Legally (unless you are a Police Officer OR make a citizens arrest) you cannot detain people. It appears that you did.

Please check the AMHD rules - this is your second near fatal mistake in 3 posts. You are presently 2 out of 3.

I used to live in Davie, Florida. They have one of the "finest" police forces around. They can see around corners, see through walls, and know when people are breaking the law! I used to have them come to my home on a regular basis and quite frankly none of them were worth a damn. You'd best leave them alone or you could be the happy recipient of unwanted Davie Police attention. And yes, I am serious about this. If you report property damage they will happily twist things around to the point where they will accuse you of destroying your own property. And as Excon said above I wouldn't put it past them to file some sort of "trapping the kiddies" charge against you! I know them well. Steer clear if your value your sanity. Been there, done that. Used to live in Silver Oaks and the PD thought everyone who lived there was trash to put it mildly. Their officers would show up with lit fat stogies and I would just want them to leave versus smell their cigar stench.

And I know this is NOT legal advice but this is sensible advice from someone who lived there for 11 years and dealt with their PD on a regular basis and heard similar horror stories from other Davie residents.

And the kiddies action was a misdemeanor and the cops cannot issue a ticket for a misdemeanor unless the COP SAW IT HAPPEN. Yes, that's the law in Florida. A water balloon is not considered a dangerous weapon. Now had it been a huge rock, maybe. But a water balloon hitting the windhsield in just the right way they cannot make it a "felony" just because the windshield broke. Had it been a hammer, wrench, brick, etc. then okay a possible ticket could have been issued to the kiddies had you been physically injured and lost control of your vehicle and crashed.

I can understand your being upset but have your car's insurance carrier notified of the damage and have it repaired. Then let your insurance carrier deal with getting reimbursed for the damages.

I'm not an idiot. I know the Davie PD personally. Please pay attention to what I've said about them and try to steer clear of them.

Exie gives good advice as well. He's looking out for you whether you believe it or not.
