I am doing a shower renovation and have removed the old plug type tap and replaced it with a quarter turn cermaic tap. I am using the same screw connection that was set into the wall for the plug type tap. I have found that when they ceramic tap has been fitted water flows through the shower even when the tap is closed. I first thought that the bottom of the tap did not make a seal with the water supply as it did not have enough reach. I tried pacing the bottom of the tap with fibre washers (one used then two) but still water flows.

You have fitted the new tap on but it won't shut off?
By "plug type tap" do you mean a stem and washer type? Will you be replacing the shower valve as well?

I don't understand your terminology. Please, explain what is "tap" and "old plug".

In general, you cannot go with different replacement parts than those you have. You can rebuild them but not substitute them with new design. That may be the reason why you are getting water flow from shower head.

Possibly, post photos of old "tap" and new "tap" and your faucet... Thanks

M guessing that a Plug tap is a stem and washer shut off. However, if he's also replacing the shower valve most of them have screwdriver stops that make the supply stops unnecessary. Sound eight to you? Regards, Tom
