Was the new battery fully charged ?
Were the terminals cleaned and properly tightened
It usually takes several hours to fully charge even a new battery with a 6-amp. Battery charger. Alternators should only be used to maintain a battery, not to charge it--this is what causes voltage regulators to burn out.
Possibly a dumb question however could it be the starter? Does it sound as if it is trying to turn over?
