I've had a Philips-Magnavox 60" rear projection TV for about 8 years (!!!), and the lenses need to be cleaned about once a year. You can easily do this yourself, but two people make it easier.

First, turn off the TV to allow the lenses to cool, and unplug the set to be safe. Then, remove the screen protector from the front. The protector will "pop" off the front, just pull gently outward on the frame until one of the sections pops loose, then work your way around the frame until it's loose. The screen protector is held on by small round “nubs” that fit into holes in the protector frame. CAREFULLY set this aside -- you don't want any scratches on it!

Next, you can remove the screws that hold the screen itself with a small socket; I think the size is 8mm. A power screwdriver is the quick and easy way to do this. Start at the bottom and work your way up around the sides, leaving the top two center screws for last. Carefully remove the last two screws and set the screen aside also.

Next, clean the rear projection mirror on the back side of the opening. Gently clean this with Windex and a soft cloth or paper towel (something that won’t leave any residue or dust). Make sure it’s really clean, no smudges.

Inside the bottom you will see the three projection lenses. Gently clean the top of these with Windex and a soft cloth or paper towel also.

Now, clean the * inside * of the screen gently with the cloth or paper towels. Replace the screen with the screws. Don’t try to clean the * outside * surface of the screen, the surface is grooved. Now, replace the screen protector, plug the set back in, and turn it on. Your TV picture will look like it did the day you first brought it home – you’ll notice a BIG difference!

    Hope this helps!

Hi, I have a 60" Philips Magnavox 8p6034 c101 rear projection television. To tell you that the picture quality is poor would be a compliment. My husband and I did as suggested about cleaning the bulbs and mirror. This did help tremendously, and thank you for this advice!
But the colors are somewhat washed out?
We have checked the bulbs while powered on.. from L to R the bulbs are Blue/ Green/ Red.
While the blue and green seemed fine and had solid colors the red looked funny... there were horizontal lines in the bulb.
I don't know what else to do about this. My husband and I are at our wits end!
