Ask Me Help Desk - Trying to conceive, 3 dpo

My last period was sept 6th, my day to ovulate was the 19th. Witch was the day I had a lot of slimy cm. sorry tmi. Me and my soon to be husband have been trying to conceive for a couple of months but our timeing wasn't very good, so I'm hopeing this month is the month. So I'm pretty sure I'm 3dpo. And my cm is a creamy white my cp is changing its still kind of soft and a little bit opened and I have been having this twinge/pinching feeling on the right side of my pelvic aera. So was my timein right? Could I have not ovulated yet? Anybody with advice and answer feel free to share them!! Thanks

Your timing may have been on the mark, but remember, timing is only part of it... albeit a very important part.

Best not to try and pinpoint one particular day as that can cause you to miss the window of opportunity. If you have a good idea as to when you think ovulation is most likely to occur, start trying several days before that day, on that day, and the next couple of days afterwards for good measure.

I had my period on August 31 of this year and I had unprotected sex on the 12th of September. Was I in any way ovulating or fertile? My period is normally on a 30 day basis and I'm not sure if I was ovulating or not, could I be pregnant? I'm also having a tingly feelinq in my breast and a little bit of cramps here and there buh that can also mean my period is on the way right?

You may have been... ovulation generally occurs about 12-16 days before the next period is due, regardless of the length of your cycle. For most women this will remain constant. This is where the ovulating on day 14 comes from as the average cycle is 28 days. Of course not everyone has a 28 day cycle and some women ovulate outside the average which is normal for them. Rarely, but someone can ovulate completely outside the norm as a one off, hence no time is 100% safe.

Using the calendar is a starting place, getting to know your body helps to pinpoint the likelihood of ovulation even more. This can be done through temping/charting, using OPKs, watching for changes in cervical mucous and feel, noticing some slight cramping on one side or the other midcycle (this is known as mittelschmerz). None of these tell you that you are definitely ovulating, only that your body is preparing for ovulation, but it is assumed if you are having regular cycles you are ovulating until proven otherwise. Without realizing it, some couples miss the mark if they focus on "the day" of ovulation because pregnancy is most likely to occur if the sperm are already ready and waiting when the egg is released. This is why starting your trying in earnest several days before you think ovulation may occur to a few days afterwards can insure you are on target from at least the timing aspect.

Many of the symptoms felt in very early pregnancy, before a period is even missed in many cases, are the same as with PMS. Women often feel they're periods are just about to come on anyday.

It really comes down to waiting, which is hard, I know! See if the next period doesn't show or is somehow different from the norm... lighter flow, fewer days, etc. You won't have a period if pregnant, but you can have some spotting or bleeding that may cause you to think it is just a period.

Thank you for your answer, I've been keeping up with my period for the last year, counting the days and making sure it comes when its expected and everything seems fine. I was just a little worried because without noticing we happened to have intercourse on the 12th and I'm not really expecting to be pregnant although if I were it wouldn't be a bad thing.
