Ok so my birthday is comeing up and it's my sweet16 and I've been waiting for this day for a long time and so my dad wants to have just a little party at my house and a long time ago he said oh were going to have a big party he lied. The partys on a Sunday I'm mad because probley the onley reasion why I'm having my party at my house is because so he can show off his new TV and watch football with my famely. I want a sweet sixteen that I can rememer most ofmy birthday partys have been at my house. Please tell me what to do I have a hard time talking to him he gets mad at me HELP!!

Well it shouldn't matter where the party is, as long as your are surrounded my your friends and loved ones.

My parents didn't do anything for mt sweet 16, so I guess you could be happy that they are willing to put anything on.

Are you helping with any of the costs of the party? Are you buying any of the supplies or able to afford to rent the venue or space to have a party?

Some of the best parties I have been to, were simple house parties with a few good friends.

I didn't have birthday parties at all, not even a Sweet Sixteen one. I agree with Aurora Bell that a good time can be had by friends at your house. In fact, I wouldn't allow you a party until you learned to spell words correctly. That's pretty awful spelling for someone who's 15.

You are not entitled to a party. You aren't entitled to demand, or expect a party, let alone what the party will consist of, when it will be, who will be there, or what your parents are expected to do or not do, or say or not say. Let alone how big the party will be, and who is going to foot the bill.

You have what is called an 'entitlement attitude' in that you expect that a sweet 16 party is your right, and you can demand things to be the way you want them.

All you can resonably demand is food, shelter, and clothing. Cell phones, internet, spending money, a sweet sixteen party, etc. are all things that are provided for you, IF your parents think you deserve them, and not because you think you have any special status to have them, simply because you feel entitled to them.

Try to show a little grace and gratitude toward anything they decide to do for your 16th, and realize that all that they do, is a choice, not a requirement.

The economy has been bad for the last 2 years. A lot of people are having to cut back on things. Its very selfish to ask for more when it isn't there to begin with. You should feel lucky you still have a home and be grateful that your parents love you and care for you. If you want to make it really memorable do something for those less fortunate on your birthday like volunteer at a soup kitchen or help the elderly in your area. Those types of acts are priceless.

Yeah, I'm also impressed that you were quick to agree with the posters' feedback. You aren't wrong to dream of a fancy party for your sweet 16 but being gracious about cutting back on the costs and having it at home doesn't mean it can't be special. Sit down with your parents and ask what would be realistic and if you can participate in the planning. If you're creative about it, you can do a lot of special things without spending a lot of money.
